Turmeric is an attractive plant that can be grown in a pot or in the ground. It makes a wonderful addition to the kitchen garden! It produces an edible rhizome (often referred to as its root) that grows just below the surface of the soil. The rhizome looks similar to Zingiber Officinale (edible Ginger) - but is orange inside. Turmeric is straightforward to grow and to harvest and it’s a perennial, so with a little care and patience you can grow your own Turmeric every year.

Turmeric grows very successfully in a large pot.
How much water does it require?
Regular moderate watering.
When will it start fruiting?
You can harvest the Turmeric rhizome once a year towards the end of Autumn or early Winter once the leaves have started to die back. Leave enough in the soil for the plant to regrow so you can harvest again next year.
